Pairing Students With Students

Northridge will be offering our students and families a tutoring service that will be anchored by our very own Northridge students.

All of our tutors are upper class students who perform well academically; they sign a detailed agreement that outlines their responsibility and accountability. They will earn up to $15.00 per hour for their time and efforts with your sons. As you may well know, this is significantly below the regular market rate for tutoring.

How does this program work?

Your son could be recommended for the program by one of his teachers. Or if you feel that your son is in need of some extra academic support you simply proceed to make an online request to have your son paired up with one of our Northridge Tutors.

If you are interested please fill out the information and request so we can get your son started.

Pairing with a Tutor. Your son will be paired with one of our tutors with respect to subject area, timing availability, as well as interests they may share in common. The goal is to find a good fit for your son and the tutor. If after a few sessions you don’t believe this is the best match, please email Mr. McGovern.

Scheduling. Once we have your son paired with a Northridge Tutor, Mr McGovern will email you the times and days for the sessions, within the slots you indicated worked for you. He will provide the tutor’s contact information, and subsequent scheduling should be arranged directly with the tutor.

Tutoring. Tutoring will take place at Northridge. Tutoring sessions after school will be done in (or across the room from) Study Hall. At the end of these sessions, the Study Hall monitor will sign a form confirming the tutoring was complete. Mr. McGovern will sign this form for morning sessions. Each week the tutors must turn in these forms to Mr. McGovern to receive their payment.

Fees & Payment. Tutoring costs $15 per hour. Families on Financial Aid can request financial assistance. Payment should be made in advance of a tutoring session. You pay in advance for as many hours of tutoring as you would like. Once you have used them up, you should pay for an additional “bank” of sessions, and so on. Obviously, un-used tutoring hours would be refunded. Each week Mr. McGovern will review the sessions completed and you will be notified if your advance payments are close to being all used up.

Method of payment. At this time payment should be made by cash or a check payable to: Northridge Preparatory School. Give to the front office, or send to the attention of Emmett McGovern. In the near future we will have an online payment option.

Let’s continue to work together to make your son’s Northridge experience a great one.
