NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY
NHS is a national honorary association for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
Membership is based on maintaining excellence in scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Although focus is given to service projects, NHS members are also the first students sought out to volunteer as tutors and for on-the-spot work at the school. In lieu of the classic idea of fulfilling “service hours,” members of the National Honor Society are expected to initiate, organize, participate in and recruit for one service project per semester. Many of these initiatives are for the benefit of the elderly and the handicapped in the Chicagoland area. NHS seeks to instill in its members the firmly held belief that authentic leadership means to serve others with the gift of oneself.
