The goal of this class is that, by the end, a student can read the Wall Street Journal intelligently. He won’t understand every reference, but will understand the gist of the article – and will know enough to figure out a reference if he chooses at least be able to figure out any reference. This is an “Introduction to Business” class. It’s purpose is to provide students with a cursory overview of topics such as “how the economy works”, the role of the Federal Reserve, a very basic accounting overview of a business (revenue, expenses, cash balance), and some basics on marketing and operations. We’ll also cover some basics in excel and do some business cases. If time permits, we may do a unit on personal finances. The class is taught by Mr. Fagan (our Headmaster) who comes to Northridge with strong business experience, including 5 years in various marketing roles at Harley-Davidson Motor Company.
Events & Topics
We will have guest speakers on occasion, and some units may be “guest taught” where experts are available.
There will be homework and assignments due. The goal is that this class is not as difficult as our standard classes, but will nevertheless require real work.
