Students will learn about: the investigative process and techniques used by Law Enforcement to successfully solve criminal cases. advancements in Forensic Science (in particular DNA), legal issues regarding Law Enforcement, famous criminal cases, current events involving Law Enforcement, guest speakers from the Legal Justice and Law Enforcement communities who will address the students, actual cases (these do include actual crime scene photos) that Mr. Whalen investigated while on the Chicago Police Department, and mock crime scenes and in-house practicum. The club may schedule some field trips.
Mr. Whalen is a retired Sergeant from the Chicago Police Department serving for 31 years. Mr. Whalen’s assignments included patrolman in the 015 District, Gang Crimes Tactical Officer, Member of Hostage Barricaded Terrorist Team, Homicide Detective, Cold Case Detective, Sergeant in Homicide Unit and Sergeant of a Cold Case Team.
