Summer Courses

Despite all our technological and innovations, teaching is an art best accomplished in a classroom, in person. Just as there’s no replacing a teacher with online resources, there’s no substitute for learning the craft of teaching in person. Join us at Northridge for one of our summer courses to find out why.

Teaching Foundations

The craft of teaching, like any art, requires both form and content. Often, beginning teachers are excited to share their knowledge and love of a subject with their young students; they have a passion for their content. However, that content needs to take a thoughtful form. Teaching Foundations equips teachers with philosophically sound and time-tested techniques for immediate use in their classrooms.

What to expect

This class is set at a digestible pace over five morning sessions. It is geared toward local teachers, but is open to teachers across the nation.

Daily morning classes will model active and engaged learning, balancing formal instruction with student participation and discussion.

Workshop sessions give an opportunity for teachers to plan their own lessons using these new techniques and discuss their implementation with seasoned teachers.

Each participant will leave the class with a definite toolbox that balances engagement with order, freedom with rigor, tradition with creativity, and which can be implemented immediately.

Bring your books and materials. We will be planning your course during our workshops.
