Northridge Drama Club Brings “The Outsiders” to Life

The Northridge Drama Club delivered a powerful performance of “The Outsiders” at Prairie Lakes Theater in Des Plaines, moving audiences with a story that has resonated with readers for generations.
Based on S.E. Hinton’s iconic 1967 novel, the play follows Ponyboy Curtis and his tight-knit group of friends, the Greasers, as they navigate rivalry, hardship, and the challenges of growing up on the wrong side of town in 1960s Tulsa. When tensions between the Greasers and the wealthier Socs boil over into violence, Ponyboy’s journey forces him to confront the real meaning of family, identity, and courage. Hinton famously wrote the novel at just 16 years old, drawing on her own experiences growing up in Tulsa, and that authenticity has kept the story alive in classrooms and on stages ever since.
The production featured two casts. Leading the Gold cast were Aidan Wagner (12th), Luke Foster (10th), Tommy Svanascini (11th), and Eamon Faherty (12th). The Maroon cast was anchored by Max Herbster (12th), Ben Rivelis (9th), Ian Macfarlane (10th), and Augusto Ortega (11th). Both casts delivered standout performances from start to finish. Behind the scenes, Mr. Herbster’s stage crew created a professional set, while director Mr. Rowan and producer Mr. Lechner guided the entire production from page to stage.
