Hundreds Attend ParentU Event with Dr. Leonard Sax, MD
Hundreds of Northridge parents and friends gathered for an informative and fun evening at ParentU’s event hosting Dr. Leonard Sax, MD, author, researcher, and one of the most compelling speakers we’ve had. Dr. Sax detailed the science behind why so many children today seem more anxious, more fragile, and less equipped to handle the bumps of everyday life. More importantly, he offered real, practical parenting answers. Following his talk, attendees were treated to a St. Patrick’s Day party featuring good food and drinks, and live music.
Dr. Sax spent decades studying how children develop into resilient, capable adults. Throughout his presentation, he drew on research done while visiting countless schools and communities around the world and while writing his bestselling books. Why are so many kids struggling? What does the research actually say about anxiety and depression in young people today? And what can parents do about it? He tackled all of these questions and more, often through insightful and humorous anecdotes. The talk was followed by a Q&A, with thoughtful questions from the audience and helpful responses from Dr. Sax.
Once the talk wrapped up, it was time to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. There were themed finger foods and a pint for everyone! And Karen O’Toole, Northridge mom, led her band through a fantastic set of Irish music that added just the right festive touch.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended, and to all the volunteers and staff who worked behind the scenes to make the evening a great success. We’re already looking ahead to next year’s ParentU lineup. Visit ParentU to see upcoming events, and to learn more about Dr. Leonard Sax, MD, please visit his website.
