About J. O’Brien, III
Mr. O’Brien was born in Chicago and grew up on the Winnetka with his parents and two younger sisters. He attended Loyola Academy, and in 1997 graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in English and Philosophy. During summers in high school and college he worked as a runner and a phone clerk on the trading floors of the Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange.
Following college, Robert worked in a bank and then again in the futures business while he earned his Masters in Education from DePaul University. He taught high school English for ten years, first at St. Francis de Sales, in Chicago, and then at Northridge Prep, where he began coaching the Chess Team. He is currently back in the investment world, coming in to Northridge a few times a week during the chess season.
Mr. O’Brien is married and lives in Chicago with his wife and eight-year-old daughter. He enjoys reading, occasional writing, playing chess, and the company of his family.
