In the two years before joining Northridge, Russell had been the Science Lead for the 11th grade at Intrinsic Schools, a successful charter school in the City of Chicago. There he was responsible for the 11th-grade science curriculum, and taught biology and several other subjects. Prior to Intrinsic, Russell taught students with learning disabilities; he also spent several years teaching middle school science and math at St. Mary of the Angels parish school in Chicago. Russell lives in Skokie with his wife Elizabeth and two children. He enjoys the outdoors, especially fishing, and did a stint in culinary school.
