Born and raised in Chicago, John earned his B.A. from DePaul University and has been in the teaching profession since 1973. At Northridge, John developed the running program and served as Head Coach for many years, and was the first coach to bring the Northridge Cross Country team to the State Finals. He also served as Headmaster at Northridge from 2012 until 2016.

John teaches Pre-Algebra, Geometry, and Middle School Math. He and his wife, Sharon, have seven children, all of whom attended Northridge and Willows, and eleven grandchildren.
