LATIN 111-112: Beginning Latin

Core

Course Description

In this Latin course, students will learn Latin vocabulary and grammar through full spoken immersion and extensive reading. This approach gives students the same mastery of Latin expected in modern language instruction through frequent skits, songs, and conversation; nevertheless, it remains as grammatically focused with graded readings and daily practice covering morphology, syntax, and vocabulary. In the course students will be expected to master an active command of classical Latin pronunciation, aquire basics of Latin grammar and most common words, coverse in Latin, and read simple texts with immediate comprehension, i.e. without translating.
