HIST 80: American History II

Course Description

This course examines the political, economic, and social developments of the United States from the Civil War (1860’s) to the present. Key topics include the rise of industrial capitalism, the impacts of immigration and westward expansion, World War I, World War II, and post-Cold War America. Emphasis will be placed on America’s foreign relations and emergence as a world power in the 20th century. Students will also: cultivate the methodology and critical thinking skills required to interpret and analyze primary and secondary sources, develop in-class essay writing strategies, note-taking, and test-taking best practices.
