HIST 407-408: AP European History

Course Description
This course covers the origins of Modern Europe from the Renaissance until the Twenty First Century. To prepare for the Modern European History AP Exam, we will deal with the following four themes: Chronological Reasoning including Causation, Change and Continuity over time, and Periodization, Comparison and Contextualization, Historical Argument and Evidence, and Interpretation and Synthesis. The course is divided into four periods: 1450-1649 or Renaissance through the 30 Years War, 1648-1815 or Enlightenment through Napoleon, 1815-1914 or the Concert of Europe through the First World War, and 1914- the Present or the Impact of the First World War to the development of the European Union.
