Overview
5…4…3…2…1…Blast-off.
Inspired by NASA’s Rocketry model, Rocketry Camp is a week-long adventure where campers will learn, explore, design, and build each day in order to launch their rocket at the end of the week. We will focus on developing an appropriate learning progression focused on the concepts necessary to engage in learning about rockets. The activities build on each other to ultimately incorporate cooperative learning, problem solving, critical thinking, and hands-on experiences. As each activity progresses, the conceptual challenges increase, offering campers full immersion in the topics.
Why Rocketry Camp?
Our goal is to excite young minds and inspire campers towards future STEM pursuits. We will be leading campers on a journey of understanding through highly engaging activities. Topics covered will include:
- Mathematical and scientific principles of rocketry
- Newton’s Laws of Motion
- Characteristics of successful parachute, payload, fin, nose cone, and body models
- The Engineering Design Process
- Propulsion and types of fuel
- Trajectory, stability, center of mass and pressure, and altitude measurement
- History of space exploration
