Overview
Want your son to learn how to paint & draw? Come learn with Master Painter John Mikan. During the session, your son will create several drawings and at least one painting on canvas. He will learn with step-by-step instruction, how to draw, mix colors, and apply brushstrokes to create their masterpieces.
Each session will have a different theme, usually inspired by a famous artist or style. Students will learn by following the teacher in a method that allows them to see projects take shape from beginning to end.
Why Paint and Drawing Crash Course?
Mr. Mikan will demonstrate how a master paints and invite your son to mimic these techniques to create their masterpieces. It is a great opportunity to give them a creative outlet. Have your son bring home something both he – and you – will want to hang on the wall.

John teaches painting and drawing at Northridge Prep while managing a local tree care company. As a man of many talents, he began his art career as a teenager for Chicago’s Gallery 37. He has done work for public and private collections and exhibited in dozens of exhibitions. He began doing larger pieces for Catholic churches and Murals while attending The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He has done murals in schools, airports, and even on public buildings. His most recent murals in Chicago were featured in the Chicago Sun-Times and other international publications. He currently works on commission for portraits and landscapes, and as a “live painter” at weddings and other events. He can be reached at imikan@northridgeprep.org.
